Scope Of Work
The Florida Gulf Coast University Aquatic Center has a 50 meter pool and a 25 meter pool. Both pools developed leaks and extensive cracks in pipes under the concrete that forced closure of the pools. Wright Construction provided a complex dewatering system that pumped water from the area to surrounding wetlands so that the piping, concrete and liners could be repaired.
The high water table complicated repair efforts. When FGCU started draining the pools, that removal of water decreased the downward pressure on the pool bottom. The pressure from groundwater then pushed dirty water into the pools. FGCU acquired a permit from the South Florida Water Management District to pump and divert groundwater into surrounding wetlands. Hundreds of thousands of gallons have been pumped and had to continue running to keep hydrostatic pressure in balance below the pool floors.
