Scope Of Work

The doors closed at the University of Colorado Hospital located at 9th and Colorado Boulevard in Denver leaving a 42-year legacy behind while beginning a new one at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Built in two phases, the state-of-the-art replacement hospital included a total of 684,000 square feet with 277,000 square feet renovated.

Patient for a Day
Before beginning work at the hospital, the Haselden team spent time observing the daily work routines of doctors, nurses, and staff at the hospital. For weeks, this team watched medical procedures and other tasks to gain first-hand knowledge of day-to-day operations. This effort enabled the team to incorporate the needs of the staff and patients in the planning process.

A Healthcare Model for the Future
At almost one million square feet and 300 inpatient beds, Haselden Construction built the hospital that is part of the Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine. This steel fram structure with masonry skin rises twelve stories and includes a basement. Operating rooms and additional support areas for imaging, surgery and intensive care were designed and constructed for both patient needs and staff efficiency.

An award-winning healthcare model, the Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion is designed with the most technologically advanced elements. The hospital offers many patient upgrades including bedside admission and discharge. All private rooms have patient controlled features, such as bedside lighting controls, wireless Web access, teleconferencing, and spacious seating areas. Outdoor gardens, water features and concrete artwork create a healing ambiance for patients and visitors. The building has sustainable features equivalent to a LEED certified building.
