Scope Of Work
For this project, Forrester Construction renovated the historic Takoma Park Library transforming it into a modern, state-of-the-art library while preserving its original style. Founded by a donation from Andrew Carnagie, the Takoma Park Neighborhood library was built in 1911 making it the first library in the DC Public Library system. The project involved a thorough restoration and preservation of the library’s interior and exterior. The interior spaces were renewed with lighting, furniture and floor coverings matching the building’s original Renaissance Revival style and a new vestibule was created. Upgrades were made to the elevator, theft detection, electrical and fire/life safety systems. Exterior work included a full restoration of all windows, doors, trim and the installation of historically-authentic light fixtures. The brick façade was cleaned and repointed and new landscaping was put in place.
