Project at a Glance

This was a 54,000-square-foot design assist project located at the new Franklin County Forensic Science Center campus

Installations included a 3,000 amp 480/277 volt service and (2) 750KW generators with 3,000 amp paralleling switch gear.

The Mid-City team navigated a very dense electrical installation, running 83,994 feet of conduit and 406,960 feet of cable,  including voice and data.

The team installed a total of 912 fixtures throughout the interior and exterior of the building.

Project Description
Mid-City was selected as the design assist partner for the Franklin County Forensic Science Center, a new two-story 54,000-square-foot facility that includes autopsy suites, body storage, forensics and autopsy labs, locker rooms, a training center, and office and administrative space. The facility will replace the current County Morgue building, and its enhanced design will help improve efficiency by adding nearly three times more space and access to new equipment. As the design assist electrical contractor, Mid-City was tasked with working with the project team to design a state-of-the-art electrical infrastructure which includes all electrical, fire alarm, and teledata systems. The project will pursue LEED certification and has been completed as of the first week of April, 2020.

As a design assist partner for a brand-new facility, Mid-City was tasked with all conduit and system installations.  Just under 84,000 feet of conduit was installed along with 406,960 feet of cable (which included data and security cabling.)  Elaborate temperature controls as well as fire alarm and security systems were installed throughout various parts of the building, including inside body storage coolers, forensic labs, autopsy labs, and the imaging (MRI) rooms.

The team worked diligently to maintain a detailed schedule, which was eventually accelerated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Though a sizable building, work was completed in very congested areas and high-end spaces.  Mid-City completed the work at Franklin County Forensic Science Center in May 2020 and is nominating it for a 2020 BX Craftsmanship Award.
