INSTALLATION OF TRANSIT SHELTERS AND AMENITIES, R LINE
RIPTA partnered with the City of Providence in the successful application for a Community Challenge Grant from the HUD Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities. RIPTA and Providence's successful grant was entitled Transportation Corridors to Livable Communities, and was a collaborative effort to strengthen the link between land use and transit access through Transportation Corridors to Livable Communities. RIPTA completed planning of its first Rapid Bus Corridor, the R-Line. The City of Providence Department of Art, Culture, and Tourism developed themes to guide the development of art so that it is reflective of the local culture through installation of the transit shelters, art benches, identity graphics, bike racks and more. Tower Construction installed these unique shelters which provide bus service on RIPTA's highest ridership corridor.
