Scope Of Work
On this high-security, safety first job site, KCC managed the construction of approx. 52,000 SF of space which included a Condensate Polishing building under the pre-installed cooler towers.
KCC was tasked with the design, coordination and erection of the main Power Building which houses two natural gas turbines, two electric generators, a steam turbine, a 125-ton bridge crane, and related power equipment. This structure also includes the Admin building, Warehouse buildings, and two Electrical buildings erected adjacent to the power equipment. KCC was responsible for the four critical buildings needed to operate this combined cycle power plant.
One of the main challenges on this project was KCC’s client, SNC-Lavalin, was significantly behind schedule. A pipe rack structure was installed prior to KCC being able to erect the 85’ tall building, preventing work access to the entire 450’ length of the north side of the building.
The installation of the pipe rack structure provided KCC only 30” of clearance between the pipe rack and the building exterior. This clearance required KCC to change its plan to install the building exterior with manlifts and cranes to avoid having to use swing scaffolding.
This change added significant time to KCC’s schedule. SNC asked KCC to accelerate the schedule and to complete the work in the original scheduled duration. KCC developed a detailed plan and schedule that allowed it to reduce the impact from the change in conditions by over 30%, and to achieve the client’s desired schedule.
Kimball’s Project Team was recognized by SNC-Lavalin for their ability to coordinate activities safely and complete our work ahead of the anticipated schedule.
