Scope Of Work
BASS Electric designed and installed Advanced Energy inverters and nearly 28,000 SunTech photovoltaic (PV) modules on top of Sunset Reservoir, the largest reservoir in San Francisco. The modules convert sunlight to usable energy and covered an area equivalent to 12 football fields over Sunset Reservoir. Due to its unique placement atop nearly 12 acres of the reservoir’s delicate lid, all module and racking components were fabricated on site and carefully rolled into position.
The result is the largest solar PV system in California as well as the largest municipal installation in the country, which significantly increased San Francisco’s utilization of renewable energy and lowers dependence on the electric grid. With this installation, the total municipal solar power generated in San Francisco has more than tripled from the former 2 MW to 7 MW today. Over the 25-year life of the project, the system will reduce carbon emissions by more than 109,000 metric tons. Its impact is equivalent to taking more than 1,000 typical San Francisco residences off the grid.
