Scope Of Work
Built in 1923, the U.S. Naval Training Center in San Diego served as a major training command center for more than seventy years. In the mid 1990s, NTC was placed on the military’s national base closure list. The project called for the removal of more than seventy acres of old, abandoned buildings, all heavily contaminated with asbestos and lead. Since this enormous demolition project would generate an excessive amount of waste, the City of San Diego insisted that the Navy salvage or recycle eighty percent of the debris. Faced with such a massive project, the Navy needed a contractor with a proven ability to handle such a complex assignment, which became the largest single project ever issued from the Demolition Projects Office, Naval Command, in Washington, D.C. The project was completed within budget and well ahead of schedule, and our team received an “Outstanding Performance” evaluation from the United States Navy. Today, the site is a vital waterfront community known as Liberty Station, encompassing new homes, parks, businesses, and cultural & educational facilities
