As Thomas Construction Group’s Chief Financial Officer since it’s inception, Bruce is accountable for the financial and risk management operations of the company. Duties include the development of the firm’s financial and operational strategy, and ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and financial results. As a member of the executive managementteam, Bruce participates in key decisions, while developing financial and tax strategies that formulate the company’s future direction.

After graduating in 1985 from Duke University with a history degree and Auburn University’s School of Building Science in 1987, Bruce joined H&M Construction in Jackson, TN as Project Manager. In 1990, he moved to Wilmington, NC to accept a Project Manager position with Miller Building Corporation.

Bruce is married with three children and attends St. James Church in Wilmington, NC, where he serves on the vestry and is involved with the church youth programs.

As President and COO for Thomas Construction Group, Chris Reid is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of the company’s day to day operations. Chris works to ensure that all projects stay focused on their short- and long-term goals of building a superior product for the best value.  Chris works closely with the precon team providing detailed constructability, value engineering, sequence, risk assessment, and estimating review.

After graduating from Auburn University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction, Chris moved to Wilmington, NC to work for Miller Building Corporation as an Assistant Project Manager. In 1996, Chris accepted a Project Manager position for an international contractor, Beers Corporation (now Skanska Corporation) in Atlanta where he was later recruited to Ra-Lin & Associates in 1998.

Seven years later, the opportunity arose for Chris to fulfill his goal of running his own construction company and making Wilmington his home. In April 2005, Chris moved back to Wilmington and founded Thomas ConstructionGroup, LLC, where he holds his General Contractor’s Unlimited License in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Nevada. Additionally, Chris successfully completed his International Code Council (ICC) national contractor’s exam and is Thomas’ primary qualifier for Pikes Peak and Johnstown, Colorado, and College Station, TX.

Chris is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, is a Past President of the Cape Fear Museum Associates Board, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and the Good Shepherd Center. Chris attends St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and lives in Wilmington with his wife Claire and their two sons.

Jim brings more than 22 years of managerial and executive level professional business affluence to Thomas Construction Group.  Serving in the capacity of Vice President – Preconstruction Director, he is responsible for the development and implementation of the corporate business development and marketing efforts for Thomas.  Jim also serves as the preconstruction executive and implements project contracts. As an on-going practice, Jim will work with the firm’s management team to create and implement long-term growth strategic opportunities.

During his career, Jim has provided multiple business sectors with his energetic and successful entrepreneurial influence. His experience has been focused on sales and business development which will aide in facilitating the company’s growth.  He will be an active participant in public and customer relations, as well as maintaining the overall marketing efforts.

As a lifelong Wilmington native, Jim and his wife, Cathrine, have two daughters. Currently, he serves on the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is Chairman of the YMCA Long Range Planning Committee, is a member of the Executive Committee for the Board of Directors for the Wilmington Family YMCA, and serves as a member of the Port Waterway and Beach Commission.  He is also active in the Charleston, SC area serving  on the STEM Advisory Board for the Career Academies through the Charleston Chamber of Commerce.  Jim received an MBA from UNC-Wilmington and a B.A.-Economics from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.

Since joining Thomas Construction Group in 2006, Roger Connor has strengthened our construction core with more than 34 years in the industry and 20 years as general superintendent. Starting in the field in 1982, Roger has supervised projects that range in volume from $10M to $60M, including prisons and detention centers; college and university buildings; hospitality resorts; big box retail centers and distribution warehouses; DOT and infrastructure; and Class A office buildings and parking decks.

Working his way through the ranks, Roger has become one of the most respected general superintendents in our market. His success has been attributed to his commitment to safety, a strong work ethic and long-standing relationships with owners and subcontractors. As Vice President for Thomas Construction Group, Roger is responsible for all field staff relations, including subcontractors, quality control, safety coordination, project scheduling and client satisfaction. Additionally, he is responsible for all projects that evolve through TCG’s Specialty Projects Division.

Roger and his wife, Angie, have two children. He is a Columbus County native and is actively involved in his community where he serves as a deacon and participates in missions at Riegelwood Baptist Church.

Since joining the firm in 2014, Tony Datena has been managing projects and project teams for Thomas Construction Group. Currently, Tony serves as the company’s VP and Project Executive where he brings over 20 years of construction industry experience as corporate officer and regional manager for other commercial contractors.

As VP / Project Executive,  Tony has the direct responsibility for the successful operation and completion of the building programs in his charge. He provides assistance during preconstruction, completes subcontractor buyout and purchasing, prepares the project schedule and project forecasts, and administers his projects and staff.

Tony is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Building Construction Management. In 2010, he led his previous company’s onsite staff at the firm’s first appearance at Camp Lejeune which helped the company attain an exemplary CCASS rating from the Navy. Tony and his wife, Mia, reside in Wilmington with their two children.

Vince Tryer has worked in the construction industry since 1984 and holds his North Carolina General Contractor’s License. His work experience ranges from job estimating and buyout to project manager and firm executive. Vince brings aggressive cost control, dedication, customer relations and successful on-time contract completions with diversified project types.

As Vice President and Project Executive for Thomas Construction Group, Vince is responsible for directing and managing the programs and projects for behavioral health, industrial, aviation, various commercial clients, and projects awarded to our Charleston office location. He directs his project management team to ensure that all projects remain focused, on track, and in line with the owner’s expectations. Vince also directs communication with project team members. His team approach brings the owner, design team and construction team together to afford a seamless project delivery.

After graduating from North Carolina State University in 1984, Vince began his career with a large Wilmington general contractor as an estimator and assistant project manager. In 1989, he moved to Charlotte to lead the firm’s Charlotte Division as Vice President.

Vince is a member of the Cape Fear Community College Construction Advisory Board. Additionally he is a member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and resides in Wilmington with his wife, Christine, and two children.

Carl brings over 40 years of experience as a safety and health professional to your project. Having worked for several Fortune 500 companies as a safety and health director, Carl was responsible for the development of safety and health programs, workers compensation and environmental compliance. His education and training includes business administration, instructor education, management techniques, and loss control. He has completed over 5000 hours of certified safety, health, fire and emergency medicine training over his health and safety career.

During his career, Carl has conducted thousands of safety audits and inspections in general industry and construction. He has served as OSHA compliance officer and has also served as a Safety Consultant for the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Consultative Services Bureau. In this position he was responsible for assisting small employers in development of safety and health programs and safety regulations compliance. Carl was instrumental in assisting several companies achieve the SHARP award from the Department of Labor, including Thomas Construction Group.

Carl’s professional affiliations have included Technical Advisor of New Hanover County’s Tactical Rescue Team; World Safety Organization Member; Safety, Health and Environmental Advisory Committee (GTMI); Safety and Health Advisory Committee Member (CRI); American Heart Association; Member of the Rescue Specialist Team (GEMA); President of Moore County Firefighter’s Association; Chairman of Moore County’s Hazardous Materials Risk Assessment Committee; and Member of the NC Fireman’s Association. Carl and his wife, Christine, reside in Wilmington.

Dave joins the Thomas executive team from the Atlanta office of a large construction firm performing general construction, design/build, and construction management services. His background includes more than 30 years of construction history including project management and estimating experience on projects ranging from less than a million dollars to $133 million. Dave is currently a GC license holder in Florida and Georgia, and has been a USGBC LEED Accredited Professional, BD&C since 2007.

Serving in the capacity of Project Executive (PX), Dave has the direct responsibility for leading the department’s operations in a manner consistent with Thomas’ Core Beliefs: Client Service, Excellence, Team, Stewardship, and Continual Improvement. The PX is also responsible for leading and managing multiple project or preconstruction teams to deliver exceptional results for our clients.  Ultimately the PX engages in client contract negotiations, insurance requirements and high-level execution, project controls, cost, risk and business management of a single project or multiple projects. His role requires supervising operations, including project managers, assistant project managers, senior project managers and superintendents.

As a Building Construction graduate from the University of Florida, Dave has spent the majority of his career in the Southeast. Since relocating to the North Carolina coast, Dave and his wife, Theresa, plan to spend time at the beach and on the water with their three grown children and their young families.
