Scope Of Work
An Air Force Base Medical Facility needed to increase their ENERGY STAR rating and commissioned Kroeschell to help achieve their goals.
Challenge
In 2007, The Air Force was beginning to comply with federal energy mandates such as the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct2005) and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA). The United States Air Force Medical Support Agency (AFMSA) commissioned Kroeschell to help the Air Force achieve its goals. Through energy metering, Kroeschell discovered that the current ENERGY STAR® rating was hovering around nine.
Solution
Kroeschell recommended several mechanical changes to the facility to rectify the situation:
Made minor adjustments to realize immediate gains
Replaced two (2) boilers with three (3) boilers
Replaced both cooling towers
Replaced building automation system
Replaced all air handler unit control valves
Replaced VAV reheat valves
Rebuilt humidifiers
Replaced chillers and pumps and converted to variable flow system
Installed on-demand water heaters
Installed point-of-use cooling for lab
Installed water conditioning system for autoclaves at dental
Installed additional cooling for data center
Results
The customer agreed, and after installation of the new equipment, the AFB’s ENERGY STAR® rating increased by over 600% to a current level nearing 70.
Kroeschell has received the highest evaluation mark of Excellent from the AFMSA and GSA. Several of our employees have received individual performance honors for outstanding service to the local Wing Commands and AFMSA. We are proud to see the recognition of our employees’ excellence.
