Scope Of Work
ICI was awarded the addition and renovation of the Glenside Public Library through a competitive bid process of pre- qualified contractors.
The expansion of this 15-year-old facility added a separate children’s library, enhanced computer facilities, expansion of the adult services department with a quiet study room and increased capacity for public meetings.
Careful removal of the west portion of the existing building was required in order to replace it with a new single story addition while keeping the library functional through construction.
Cutting away the existing roof deck was necessary for construction of a new “clear story” glazing and Canadian timber truss system of exposed beams.
Selective demolition of the first and second floor offices took place, followed by renovations. Stairs between the mezzanine and first level were replaced and new parking and sidewalks were constructed.
The structurally complicated 12,000 SF addition and renovation won the Bronze Award for Excellence in Masonry from Northern Illinois Real Estate Magazine.
