Scope Of Work
McIlhenny Company produces more than one million bottles of TABASCO® brand pepper sauce per week in a variety of sizes at its plant in Avery Island, Louisiana.
When McIlhenny made the strategic decision to double the plant’s output, it called on The Austin Company for assistance. After review of the existing facilities, Austin recommended that McIlhenny expand the warehouse section of their plant.
The project involved adding an 87,500 SF bay to the existing 102,000 SF plant and warehouse, which were originally designed and constructed by The Austin Company in 1978. Austin also renovated a 5,000 SF area within the existing warehouse. This assignment included production areas, new offices and an employee lounge. The addition, which consisted primarily of a high-bay open space with loading docks at each end, provided capacity for future high-density rack storage.
The expansion was constructed with custom-colored, split-faced concrete block wainscot and profiled metal siding to match the roof of the existing building. The structure was also designed to withstand hurricane-force winds.
