Scope Of Work
In the heart of downtown Naples, QE tackled the reconstruction of Central Avenue, a major transportation enhancement along the Central Avenue corridor between 8th Street and Goodlette-Frank Road. This project involved the installation of new utilities for the entire stretch of road, including approximately 4,000 LF of drainage pipe, 6,000 LF of utility piping, 3,000 tons of asphalt placement, curbs, sidewalks, pedestrian bicycle lanes, lighting, and signalization. This project design for the City of Naples is just one of many Blue Zone concepts for a healthier urban environment.
Project Challenges and Mitigations
Since the project took place in close proximity to several businesses, including the Naples Park Central Hotel, QE did not have much room to maneuver on the site. In order to keep traffic flowing in certain areas and provide access to area businesses, QE chose to directionally drill the utilities under U.S. Highway 41 to reduce disruption to the public. Additionally, groundwater conditions posed challenging since QE was working in close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. In response, a significant amount of dewatering was required during the project while installing the storm drain and utilities.
Despite several complicating factors, QE was able to complete this project to the City of Naples’ satisfaction. The Central Avenue Roadway and Utilities Reconstruction project was an excellent example of how self performance allows QE to handle all aspects of a job, including the maintenance of a timely schedule and budget.
