Scope Of Work
Completed in December 2009, the Marian University Music Building is a single story masonry, glass, and steel structure. The facility is designed with high clerestory windows to allow natural light into the rehearsal hall without aff ecting acoustics. The perimeter walls are constructed of custom acoustical masonry blocks on the interior with a three color brick veneer scheme on the exterior. Additional acoustical treatment was implemented with specially designed waffle ceiling tiles. The facility also includes fi ve individual Wenger sound proof practice rooms and secure instrument storage. This project is Phase I of a three phase expansion for the Marian University Music Department. CHALLENGES The existing classroom building to the south needed to remain open and in operation during the construction of the addition. Safety was top priority as students and faculty accessed the existing music classrooms immediately adjacent to the construction site during construction. Many options to reduce the cost were presented and evaluated by the Project Team to align the budget with fund-raising efforts.
