Scope Of Work
Completed in 2013, the new state-of-the-art Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences houses Indiana’s first College of Osteopathic Medicine as well as Marian University’s School of Nursing. • The 140,000 square foot facility is LEED Gold certified consisting of 2 lecture halls, 6 classrooms, 10 training rooms, administrative offices, lab space, a two-story lobby and community gathering space, a three-story monumental stair and a roof terrace for entertaining and exterior study space. • Unique features of the building include 18,000 sf of simulation and skills labs to mirror hospital and physician office environments as well as a 5,000 sf high tech anatomy lab, a 5,000 sf Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine lab, and a 50 seat chapel furnished with wooden furniture made from cherry trees milled from the site. • Student amenities include more than a dozen group study rooms, state-of-the art wireless teaching technology, on-site food services and spacious common study areas. • The HVAC system is a high efficiency, water cooled variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system customized for the multiple uses in the facility. CHALLENGES • The development and construction schedule required coordinating the unique requirements of the medical academic accreditation process and academic calendar. • Given the community impact of the project and its association with Marian University, Browning coordinated significant donations from various stakeholders affiliated with the University. • The site development presented unique challenges given the campus’s proximity to residential neighborhoods and the need to acquire several residences to allow for development of the facility.
