Scope Of Work
Manhattan completed the 120,000 square-foot Florida Gulf Coast University Alico Arena in 2002. The facility was constructed to serve as a teaching gymnasium and includes a three-court multipurpose gymnasium with performance court and seating for 4,500 with six suites, team locker facilities, 7,600 square-foot fitness center with cardiovascular and strength areas, 1,600 square-foot dividable aerobics and combative rooms, an auxiliary gymnasium, a training room, and a jogging track/performance concourse as well as faculty offices, an administrative center and conference rooms. Manhattan was able to generate a list of viable Value Engineering items that produced a minimum of $658,000 in savings. The project was designed to meet the needs of the university’s students and athletic programs while incorporating the needs of Lee County’s local programs. Well into the project’s original construction, FGCU and Manhattan teamed with the Lee County Emergency Department to provide for a hurricane shelter. The building’s original design was revised to include elements of “hardening” based on the Miami-Dade Hurricane Standards. This project was completed on-time, on-budget, at the highest level of quality possible.
