Scope Of Work
KBR has a 40-year history at Chocolate Bayou
1970s: KBR provided technology and engineering, procurement and construction services for BP’s Olefins Plants No. 1 and No. 2.
2002 – 2005: KBR provided its SCORE™ ethylene technology and engineering, procurement and construction services for a major expansion of the olefins site at Chocolate Bayou.
2012 – 2014: KBR designed and constructed a 218-225 KTA SCORE™ gas cracking furnace that will provide the highest achievable ethylene yields in the industry.
The furnace is essentially a duplicate of the existing SCORE™ furnaces rated for 219 KTA installed in No. 1 Olefins Plant at Chocolate Bayou from 2002 to 2005.
The executed agreements with INEOS include provision of a technology license, engineering, procurement, supply of equipment and materials, and construction of the furnace.
2012 – 2014: The furnace uses KBR’s high-performance Selective Cracking and Optimum Recovery (SCORE™) ethylene technology and processes NGL feedstocks.
The furnace also includes KBR’s latest-generation ultra-low NOx burner technology and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) bed to reduce emissions of nitrous oxides.
Project Highlights
Exemplary Safety Record. Zero LTI.
Using KBR’s SCORE™ technology, the new furnace has a lower environmental impact, producing lower emissions per ton of ethylene production.
KBR has a 40-year history at the Chocolate Bayou site.
INEOS’s Chocolate Bayou site is the second-largest ethylene site in the U.S. and the fifth-largest in the world, and thanks to state-of-the-art technology, the new furnace has lower environmental impact.
