Scope Of Work
Although school looks a bit different now due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the Shockey education team keeps building great places to work and learn.
River City Middle School, located in an urban environment at the site of the former Elkhardt Middle School in Richmond, contains a media center, auxiliary gyms, kitchens in each wing, three science labs, and an abundance of light and color. Exterior walls are primarily brick with aluminum composite metal panel systems. To help shorten construction time, exterior windows and doors are prefinished curtain wall and storefront systems. Teaching spaces in the 183,000 SF school are equipped with marker and tack boards.
When Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney toured, he had high praise for both the building team and the finished school, calling it a “high-tech, 21st century school that speaks to future performance and excellence of our students.”
Howard Shockey & Sons Inc. served as Construction Manager for the $64.5 million, 1,500-student building. Responsible for preconstruction and construction, Shockey provided site development and oversaw all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services and interior build-out and finishes.
