Scope Of Work

A critical first step of the Port Authority of NY & NJ’s LaGuardia Airport Redevelopment Program is addressing the acute need for airport parking while the new terminal is built. Yonkers’ successful design-build team offered the best value to provide a pre-cast structure with at least 1,100 parking spaces in compliance with the Port Authority’s Central Terminal Design Standards.

Under a design-build contract, Yonkers recently completed a new 5-story parking structure opposite Terminal C taking advantage of established relationships by assembling a strong team, including the designer and pre-caster, to benefit the project. The Yonkers team developed a creative solution that reduced the footprint of the structure while increasing the available parking spaces.

Working under an aggressive schedule, the new pre-cast parking garage was designed and erected on pile foundations in just 20 months with architectural aluminum fins intended to match the anticipated aesthetics of the new terminal building.

The garage includes electric car charging stations, preferred spaces for low emission/hybrid vehicles, glass enclosed elevators and signage to indicate parking space availability. A 5-kv substation was also part of construction to step down incoming power to normal operating voltage for the garage and adjacent exit plaza. Electrical and mechanical systems, including fire, life safety and security systems, were installed above the 100-year flood elevation, improving the life cycle of the project.
