Scope Of Work
Keeping fresh water flowing into New York City and controlling flood waters for communities in upstate New York requires maintenance of the reservoirs and dams located in the watershed miles north of the City. The Croton Falls Dam, 30 miles north of NYC was placed into service in 1911. Yonkers has completed reconstruction work and is currently performing reconstruction work to extend the facility’s useful life and increase operational reliability.
Rehabilitation work included improving the weir structures, increasing the size of the spillway channels, replacing the 140-foot Hemlock Road bridge over the spillway, replacing/rehabilitating the gate house, gate chambers, intake towers and valve chambers, including all large diameter piping and valves.
Currently, Yonkers is completing construction of a new pump station – work has involved demolition of the existing pump station, site work for new storm water detention ponds, constructing a new two-story building to house pumps and installation of five 30-mgd pumps along with associated valve, piping supports and appurtenances, new valve chambers.
