Scope Of Work
Due to increased security requirements, all trucks and buses will access the World Trade Center’s vast underground complex through the Vehicle Security Center (VSC). Varying in depth from 50 to 80 feet, Yonkers excavated earth and rock within new slurry, secant pile and jet grout walls installed from street level and seated into Manhattan bedrock. To facilitate excavation Yonkers installed tie back anchors through the perimeter walls followed by reinforced concrete walls, mechanical pits and slabs.
Immediately adjacent to the WTC Memorial, the VSC excavation and foundation contract required an aggressive schedule to facilitate advancement of excavation and superstructure steel erection to meet the overall WTC schedule and the opening of the 9/11 Memorial by the 10th anniversary.
This excavation and foundation contract was the last underground phase of this massive re-building effort work. Yonkers completed work within the constrained site, around active subway lines and city streets –site challenges successfully met previously. The VSC foundations was Yonkers’ sixth major contract for the reconstruction of the new World Trade Center commercial and transportation hub.
